IATA launches standard safety assessment programme for smaller airlines

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched the IATA Standard Safety Assessment (ISSA) for smaller airlines.

In a statement today, association said the ISSA was a voluntary safety audit programme created primarily for smaller airlines not eligible for the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) because the operating airplane has a take-off weight lower than 5,700 kg.
IATA said while the ISSA was not a substitute for IOSA and was not linked to IATA membership.

«It is a way for smaller airlines and private charters to ensure their aircraft were up to the latest in safety standards,» it said.

IATA director-general/chief executive officer, Tony Tyler, said there was a clear need to ensure that operators of all types of equipment had robust safety infrastructure in place, validated by an operational safety evaluation…
