Orlando airport vents over repeated shuttle failures that delay passengers

Orlando"™s airport will fine a manufacturer and seek compensation for fliers hit with extra costs because of repeated failures of a new shuttle, airport director Phil Brown said after a shuttle failed again Monday.

The builder has "brought resources in from all over the world, and we want them to bring in more resources," said Brown, who added that he is not confident shuttle problems have been solved.

Part of a $90 million replacement of shuttles at Orlando International Airport, a newly installed shuttle has been crippled three times in the past week.

The first incident Wednesday lasted for several hours and affected nearly 14,000 passengers. A failure occurred again Sunday, which was followed by another Monday morning, with both lasting less than an hour.

The airlines involved were American, United and Spirit, using gates 1 through 59…
