Miami Airport Will Operate Until Irma Winds Hit 35 MPH

Miami International Airport will keep operating ahead of Hurricane Irma as long as possible, according to Miami-Dade officials. Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced on Wednesday that the airport would remain open until sustained winds reach 35 MPH. The Miami airport is among the busiest in the United States with many flights to and from Latin America each day.

“We continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Irma,” airport officials said on Wednesday. “Please follow up with your airline if you are flying later this week.”
