Air France warns fliers to brace for Thursday strike

Air France will ground a significant number of flights Thursday because of a pay-related employee strike.

The company said half of its long-haul flights from Paris would be canceled. Beyond that, Air France said about a quarter of its medium-haul flights to and from Paris-Charles de Gaulle would be grounded. About 15% of shorter flights were expected to be grounded. The cancellations were likely to include a number of Air France’s U.S. flights.

"Air France regrets this situation and is making every effort to minimize the inconvenience this strike action may cause to its customers," the airline said in a statement.

The strike targets only flights operated by Air France or its lower-cost unit Joon. Flights on KLM, part of the broader Air France-KLM group, were not expected to be included in the strike.

Air France was waiving change and rebooking fees for customers traveling Thursday. The waivers generally allowed customers to make one change to their itineraries if the rebooked travel occurred by Feb. 27. Alternately, customers can get a credit for the unused portion of their itinerary to apply toward future travel. The details of the waivers were listed on Air France"™s website…
