Airlines waive change fees on Hawaii flights as Hurricane Lane approaches the islands

Several airlines announced they will waive change fees on flight reservations to and from the Hawaiian Islands due to a massive hurricane aimed at the state.

Alaska and Hawaiian are among the airlines allowing travelers a one-time reservation change without paying a fee if their flight falls within a specific date range. With Alaska, the range is Aug. 22 to 25 and with Hawaiian it’s Aug. 21 to 26.

Hurricane Lane has strengthened to become a Category 5 storm and is poised to churn over the islands later this week.

Airports in the islands are preparing emergency generators and pumping stations with fuel and emergency fuel for possible deployments, the Honolulu Star Advertiser reports…
