British Airways promises better snacks, extra meals, fast wifi and plug points at all seats for its Economy passengers

The airline is buying new planes, giving its current fleet a makeover and improving its meal options in a bid to win back customers.

The changes were announced by Chief executive Alex Cruz, who declared that BA is «taking on the competition» in an aviation market that is «more competitive than it has ever been».

In a bid to become the airline of choice for everyone, the company said that it was going to improve the experience of customers in all cabins.

BA is buying 72 new planes over the next five years and giving a new interior to 128 of its current planes.

The airline is also bringing the aircraft into the 21st century with at-seat power supplies for all passengers and fast wifi rolled out in all cabins.

They are also upgrading their food offering for long-haul economy customers "“ with a full second meal on each flight and improved snacks.

Alex Cruz said: «We have learnt some hard lessons this year and where we have fallen short we are doing our best to put it right.

«I know the introduction of buy-on-board catering on short-haul economy had its critics.

«I know we did not deliver it initially as well as we could have.»…
