One of the Caribbean’s most popular destinations has gotten a major new boost from low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines.
Spirit has launched its newest nonstop flights from Orlando to St Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands.
The new nonstop flights are running three times each week, part of a wider expansion for Spirit in Orlando that has included new routes to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; San Pedro Sula in Honduras; Aguadilla in Puerto Rico and Guatemala City, among other additions.
The flights are running on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
“As an airline we love working with really good groups and this is the best in the industry, the best in the world,” said Spirit’s Director of Communications, Stephen Schuler.
US Virgin Islands Governor Kenneth Mapp thanked Spirit for strengthening “aerial highways” to the Virgin Islands.
Spirit has also added new routes to Bogota and San Jose, Costa Rica, and will be launching a new route to Cartagena twice each week beginning Nov. 10.
“We have been proud to serve Orlando for 25 years, and after more than doubling service last year, we are so proud to be expanding there yet again,” said Bob Fornaro, Spirit’s Chief Executive Officer. “Orlando is now one of our largest markets, and we have no plans on stopping our growth.
