IATA supports passenger service charge equalization in Malaysia

IATA is supporting the Malaysian Aviation Commission"™s (MAVCOM) efforts to bring passenger service charges (PSC) at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), in line with the city"™s primary airport terminal.

The Malaysian government had set the PSC for KLIA2"”which opened in May 2014"”at the same level as the previous Low-Cost Carrier Terminal at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

The disparity in PSC can result in commercial distortion between airlines that operate at the two terminals
PSC remains higher at KLIA, despite the fact facilities and services at KLIA2 are comparable.

This leads to cross-subsidization, with passengers using the KLIA effectively paying for the services enjoyed by passengers in KLIA2. The disparity in PSC can also result in commercial distortion between airlines that operate at the two terminals.

MAVCOM is aiming to achieve complete equalization of PSC by January 2018.
