Spirit Airlines Inc. will debut nonstop flights from Fort Lauderdale to Cali, Colombia starting Dec. 20.
The Miramar-based discount carrier (Nasdaq: SAVE) said Wednesday it will connect Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).
The new route will mark Spirit’s fifth service to Colombia. The airline currently provides flights to Bogotá, Medellín, Cartega and Armenia, Colombia. The company has been offering flights to the country for the past decade.
Cali will be the airlines’ 17th destination in Latin America and 28th destination outside the continental of the U.S.
“After starting service there more than a decade ago, we continue to see amazing demand by our guests… Cali will be yet another option to keep loved ones connected and provide added convenience,» Spirit’s VP of Network Planning Mark Kopczak said.
Spirit, which recently announced it would install Wi-Fi connectivity on its entire fleet, is considered one of South Florida’s largest public companies.
