International air cargo in Latin America and the Caribbean grew 3.1% in February

In February 2026, international air cargo transported to, from, and within Latin America and the Caribbean reached 319,380 metric tonnes. This represents a 3.1% year-on-year increase compared to February 2025, and an improvement over January. Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico remained the three largest markets in the region, accounting for close to 60% of total volume.

International air cargo in February 2026: key results:

  • The fastest-growing markets among the main ones were:
    • Argentina:  +15.6%
    • Colombia: +9.0%
    • Peru: +7.5%

 

  • North America accounted for 47.9% of international air cargo volumes in the region.
    • Europe accounted for 26.6%, Latin America and the Caribbean 16.6%, and the remaining 9.0% corresponded to other regions such as Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa.

 

  • Colombia was the main driver of regional growth.
    • International air cargo volumes reached 70,037 tonnes, up 9.0% year-on-year, equivalent to an additional 5,776 tonnes. The Colombia–United States corridor totaled 42,534 tonnes and grew 6.1%.

 

  • Argentina led growth in percentage terms among the main markets.
    • Growth reached 15.6% year-on-year, driven by traffic with the United States, which increased 24.7%.

 

  • Brazil has recorded seven consecutive months of contraction in international cargo.
    • Volumes totaled 66,823 tonnes, down 1.5% year-on-year. Its main corridors with the United States, Portugal, Chile, and Germany all declined.

 

  • Air cargo traffic between Latin America and the Caribbean and Spain continued to grow.
    • Air cargo traffic grew 10.5% year-on-year in February, with the strongest gains on Mexico–Spain (+20.9%) and Chile–Spain (+32%).

 

In February, international air cargo in Latin America and the Caribbean grew 3.1%, surpassing 319 thousand tonnes and accelerating compared to January. Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico remained the largest markets by volume, while Argentina led year-on-year growth with an increase of 15.6%, driven by traffic with the United States. In contrast, Brazil recorded seven consecutive months of contraction, reflecting diverging trends across the region’s main markets. North America continues to account for close to 48% of the region’s international flows,” said Peter Cerdá, CEO of ALTA.
