Aruba Airport Signs Strategic Memorandum of Understanding Supporting European Connectivity, Innovation, and Future Pre-Clearance Opportunities

Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA), together with the Government of Aruba, Royal Schiphol Group, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on strengthening aviation connectivity, innovation, digital infrastructure, and future travel facilitation opportunities between Aruba, Europe, and other international markets.

The MOU was signed by Aruba Airport Authority N.V.’s CEO Jonny Andersen; Prime Minister of Aruba, Mike Eman; Minister of Tourism, Transport & Labor, Wendrick Cicilia; Berry van Buren representing Royal Schiphol Group; and Danilo de Freitas representing KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

The agreement is part of a broader collaborative vision to establish Aruba as a leading hub for innovation and connectivity in the Caribbean, while supporting Aruba Airport’s long-term Gateway 2030 transformation strategy.

A central focus of the MOU is the exploration of future digital border facilitation and pre-clearance opportunities that could further streamline travel between Aruba and Europe. The initiative builds upon Aruba Airport’s successful U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance model, which already allows travelers flying to the United States to complete immigration and customs procedures prior to departure, creating a faster and more seamless arrival experience.

The strategic collaboration also supports Aruba Airport’s market diversification strategy by strengthening connectivity with Europe and creating additional opportunities to attract European visitors to Aruba. Diversifying and enhancing air connectivity remains an important component of Aruba Airport’s long-term vision to support sustainable tourism development and broaden Aruba’s international visitor markets.

As part of the collaboration, the parties will work together on knowledge exchange, innovation, digital infrastructure alignment, operational efficiency, customer experience, and future-ready airport development. The initiative also aligns with ongoing discussions surrounding the concept of Aruba serving as a future Atlantic Digital Gateway and potential EU-Schengen pre-clearance hub.

The signing took place during the official visit of Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten to Aruba Airport, where the delegation toured the airport’s U.S. CBP Preclearance operations, new baggage handling facilities, and Gateway 2030 developments.

“This partnership demonstrates the importance of collaboration and innovation in shaping the future of aviation and connectivity for Aruba,” said Jonny Andersen, CEO of Aruba Airport Authority N.V. “Together with our partners, we continue to work toward further strengthening Aruba’s position as a leading gateway in the Caribbean while improving the travel experience for all passengers.”

The MOU supports Aruba Airport’s broader vision under its Gateway 2030 program to create a more connected, efficient, innovative, and passenger-focused airport experience for the future.
