ABEAR mourns the passing of Eduardo Sanovicz

t is with deep regret that the Brazilian Association of Airlines (ABEAR) announces the death of Eduardo Sanovicz, one of the founders of the entity, where he served as president from 2012 until May 2023, when he became executive president of the The institution’s Deliberative Council. Sanovicz was married, father of three daughters and a son. He had a degree in History and a PhD in Communication Sciences from USP and was a professor of the tourism course at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities at the University of São Paulo (USP). ABEAR expresses its feelings to family and friends.

Recognized as one of the main leaders of Brazilian commercial aviation over the last 11 years, Sanovicz’s contribution to the development of the Tourism sector and, consequently, to the social and economic strengthening of the country is also notable. In 2003, at the invitation of the newly elected president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the Minister of Tourism, Walfrido Mares Guia, he became president of Embratur, the government body responsible for promoting Brazil abroad. There, he created the Aquarela Plan and the Brasil brand, which is being used in the current administration of the Lula government and Marcelo Freixo at the head of Embratur. Under his management, Embratur recorded, in 2006, a record inflow of dollars into the country, of more than US$4 billion at that time.

Before Embratur, Sanovicz was Director of Tourism for the city of Santos, in 1993, where he was one of those responsible for implementing the city’s tourism recovery plans.
