ALTA Supports ANAC Resolution 400/2016 on New Airline Passenger Rules

During participation at the Wings of Change conference today in Rio de Janeiro, ALTA (the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association) reiterated that the association supports Brazil"™s National Civil Aviation Agency"™s (ANAC) proposed airline passenger rules and regulations under Resolution 400/2016. The new proposed rules benefit consumers and bring Brazil closer to more airline consumer regulation practices.

"We support ANAC"™s proposed airline consumer regulations under Resolution 400," said ALTA"™s Executive Director Eduardo Iglesias. "This resolution is a positive step forward and would be a win-win for passengers and airlines, bringing Brazil"™s consumer regulations closer to global resolution practices, increasing competition, and promoting traffic growth. Today we have seen and heard several presentations about Brazil"™s potential for economic expansion. Aviation is a key enabler of economic growth, but its benefit cannot be achieved if they do not address much need regulatory reforms. ANAC"™s Resolution 400/2016 is one positive and significant step toward that objective."

"The Latin America and Caribbean region will double its traffic over the next 10 years and Brazil must update its consumer regulations to acceptable standards, which will allow the airline industry to connect more cities, promote more tourism and business development, and generate wealth for the communities we serve and beyond," added Iglesias while attending the Wings of Change event in Rio de Janeiro.
