Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson, said he is delighted that American Airlines will begin airlifting passengers to Guyana from December of this year.
Patterson who has made a name for him self as one of the hardest working politicians in the Coalition government said the new service will coincide with the launch of the newly expanded Cheddi Jagan International Airport, and demonstrates a confidence in destination Guyana not only as a desirable tourist destination, but as an emerging oil economy as well.
The minister made these comments via the Department of Public Information InfoHub, after it was announced by the airline giant on its website that the carrier would be adding Georgetown to its South American schedule.
Patterson added, "the government has been working at various levels to provide more options to travelers to and from Guyana to North America with increased airlift, and American Airline"™ commitment to destination Guyana is a recognition of government"™s work since coming into office in 2015."
The Dec. 20 liftoff will fly passengers from Miami International Airport to Cheddi Jagan International Airport, (CJIA) in its initial approach to the Guyana market.
According to AA"™s website, the company announced on Tuesday, March 27, that as part of its expansion to several markets in Latin America and the Caribbean, it plans to begin regular scheduled service to Guyana later this year.
American Airlines said, "next winter, customers looking for history, culture and warm climate will have access to three new cities in South America: Georgetown, Guyana (GEO); Pereira, Colombia (PEI) and Cordoba, Argentina (COR); and one new city in Mexico: Oaxaca (OAX)."
Other American destinations are likely to be examined once the airline settles in, but it will be offering connections from all of its major destinations to Guyana through Miami, according to AA.
The statement said the airline"™s ticket sale to its Guyana market will begin on April 2, with the flights beginning on Dec.20.
