From December this year to March 2025, Delta will once again connect two of the most vibrant cities desired by travelers around the world: Rio de Janeiro – famous for its beaches, its urban setting surrounded by lush nature, its rhythm of samba and bohemian vibe – and New York City, one of the most dynamic metropolises on the globe, which, from architecture to gastronomy, arts and culture to sports, offers a multitude of extraordinary experiences.
The seasonal and daily route, which not only fosters cultural exchange and meetings with family and friends but also strengthens economic ties between Brazil and the United States, will run from Dec. 20, just in time for the holidays, until March 27, 2025. The route will operate on the Boeing 767-300ER, with capacity for 215 passengers, offering the following options:
- Delta One: 25 spacious seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, ensuring that all customers have free access to the aisle. The seats recline 180° and become beds, and passengers are welcomed aboard with new amenity kits by the premium Italian brand Missoni, which include Grown Alchemist skin care products. In addition, Delta One passengers can enjoy a wide range of beverage options and a regularly refreshed and seasonally inspired menu created by chefs, whose main courses can be chosen in the Fly Delta app, between a week and 24 hours before the flight.
- Delta Premium Select: 18 wider seats and additional recline compared to Main Cabin, with adjustable headrests and footrests. Travelers find more locally inspired dining, more dedicated service, and the exclusive option to pre-select onboard meals, like Delta One. To enhance in-flight comfort, they also receive artisan-made amenity kits from the Mexican brand Someone Somewhere, with travel essentials.
- Delta Comfort+: 21 seats offering dedicated overhead bin space and preferred seating in the main cabin.
- Main Cabin: 151 ergonomic seats with individual entertainment screens.
When returning from New York City to Brazil, Delta One customers can enjoy the sophisticated Delta One Lounge at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The sweeping 39,000-plus-square-foot lounge, which opened last June, offers a variety of experiences and amenities for premium travelers, from gourmet dining to spa-like wellness treatments, valet service and much more. With attentive service and a variety of amenities designed for the premium traveler, the Delta One Lounge is the perfect place for customers to relax and recharge in style before boarding.
The return of the Rio de Janeiro (GIG)–New York (JFK) route is crucial for Delta and our customers in both countries. We launched the flight during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer because many Brazilians travel to the U.S. for vacation, while Americans seek warmth in Rio during their winter,” said Delta’s Regional Sales Manager in Brazil, Ricardo de Oliveira.
“With the resumption of the JFK-GIG flight, Delta and LATAM further consolidate their Joint Venture as the #1 partnership of its kind for flights between Brazil and New York, offering three daily frequencies to the Big Apple, including our flights departing from São Paulo, which demonstrates the power of our alliance. In two years of operation, we have already operated more than 11,000 flights together, with more than 2 million passengers carried, not to mention the countless reciprocal benefits for frequent flyers and the special advantages we offer corporate clients,” Oliveira said, adding that, from Brazil, the partners also jointly operate direct flights to the U.S. cities of Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami and Orlando.
In addition to the return of the seasonal GIG-JFK route, the Rio de Janeiro market is gaining more good news: the flight between Rio de Janeiro and Atlanta, currently operated three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, aboard Boeing 767-300s, will become daily from December 19 this year until March 31, 2025. During this period, Delta will deploy a larger aircraft to fly the route, the A330-300, with capacity for 282 passengers.
