Air Europa (Spain) and Condor Flugdienst GmbH (Germany) airlines join the map of routes that fly to the Mariscal Sucre International Airport. This is a national strategy to achieve the expansion during the 2018 for connectivity, tourism and business aimed at new markets.
The country"™s tourism potential attracts new actors in the world of connectivity. In 2018, Ecuador and Quito will be more connected to Europe thanks to the addition of two new airlines that will fly to Spain and Germany from the
Quito Mariscal Sucre International Airport.
In a press conference held on December 12, the Minister of Tourism, Enrique Ponce De León, recognized the collective work of the Ministry of Tourism, the Municipality of Quito and Corporación Quiport, concessionaire of the capital"™s airport, to achieve the expansion of opportunities for connectivity, tourism and business towards new markets during the next year, with the arrival of Air Europa and Condor Flugdienst GmbH.
Air Europa, a Spanish airline, expands its frequency to Ecuador with a triangular MadridQuito-Guayaquil-Madrid flight. It will begin its activities with this frequency next January 2, 2018 and it will have three to five weekly frequencies. This airline began its connectivity to Ecuador in December 2016 with flight UX039 with a total 282 passengers who arrived from Madrid to Guayaquil on board the A330-200 Airbus.
Starting in January of next year, Air Europa will land in Quito and will perform its inaugural flight on the A330-220 aircraft, with an approximate capacity of 299 passengers. The passengers are expected to arrive at 7:20 a.m. on January 2, 2018.
Meanwhile, German airline Condor will touch ground in Quito from Frankfurt when performing the Frankfurt-Santo Domingo-Quito-Santo Domingo-Frankfurt flight. The inaugural flight is expected during the fourth quarter of 2018 and it will have two weekly frequencies.
During the announcement, Andrew O"™Brian, CEO of Corporación Quiport, explained that the beginning of Condor"™s operations is an important milestone in the connectivity between Ecuador and Europe"”Germany, in particular. Furthermore, the Caribbean is added to the country"™s route map via Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). "Condor is a
strategic ally of Thomas Cook, one of the world"™s leading retailers of tourism packages, which represents a great opportunity to promote Ecuador"™s tourism potential," explained
the executive.
"This country has everything; we have a vivid scenery that is worthy of being recognized by the whole world; we have great infrastructure, an airport that has won international awards thanks to Corporación Quiport"™s work. The only thing missing has been working together, but today we are building those bridges to prepare a tourism product that is attractive and that leads the country to be the major tourist powerhouse that we all desire," stated Minister Enrique Ponce De León when congratulating this milestone in the country"™s connectivity.
Meanwhile, Ãlvaro Maldonado, Secretary of Productive Development and Competitiveness of the Municipality of Quito, explained that the city has become an economic and touristic area of influence, which generates an attractive demand for airlines to decide to arrive here.
With these efforts, the goal is to bring Ecuador closer to the world and to position it as a true tourism powerhouse, achieving the three axes of work proposed by the Ministry of Tourism: promotion of internal tourism; increasing the arrival of inbound tourism, seeking the 1×1 goal; and attracting new investment.
Ecuador is connected abroad through international flights that bring travelers to the "country of four world", in order to provide experiences, feelings, and emotions that have never been seen before.
