Servicios Aeroportuarios Andinos S.A. (SAASA) begins 2023 with the official delivery of two new International Air Transport Association (IATA) certifications: Smart Facility Operational Capacity (SFOC) and CEIV Lithium Batteries, after the audit processes carried out in November 2022. The first one (SFOC) certifies an optimal process for the Reception, Acceptance, Handling, Storage and Dispatch of all types of merchandise, including Dangerous Cargo and Mail; while the second one CEIV Lithium Batteries guarantees the proper handling of cargo containing lithium batteries, a critical topic in the air cargo industry. This way, SAASA becomes the first company in the airport sector worldwide to achieve the full suite of IATA CEIV programs (Lithium Batteries, Fresh, Pharma, Live Animals) as well as the SFOC, evidencing compliance with the sector’s highest international standards.
“During 2022, we were able to extend these new operational standards to the Mexican airport services market. Our challenge this 2023 is to start working in some Spanish airports operated by AENA, where we have applied to provide the best ramp, cargo and passenger service,» said Enrique Vargas, SAASA’s CEO.
“SAASA’s commitment to air cargo safety and operational excellence is evidenced through their successful completion of the IATA CEIV Lithium Batteries and the Smart Facility Operational Capacity Certifications (SFOC). We congratulate them on their achievement. Achieving the full suite of five IATA CEIV programs as well as the SFOC sets a high quality and operation performance bar, from which SAASA’s customers will benefit,” said Brendan Sullivan is IATA’s Global Head of Cargo. This new achievement adds on to recently winning the Pride of Ground Handling Awards 2022, for the Best Airport Cargo and Passenger Station worldwide, recognition granted by Ground Handling International, the British magazine specialized in airport matters.
