Iberia Inspires Aviation Careers Among Young Women with the Fourth Edition of “Quiero Ser”

Iberia has held a new edition of “Quiero Ser,” its program designed to spark interest in aviation careers among young women, in collaboration with CAE and Technovation Girls. In this fourth edition, 35 participants aged 14 to 18 had the opportunity to explore the world of commercial aviation and aircraft maintenance up close, gaining first-hand insight into the daily work of a pilot, an Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT), or an engineer.

During the day, the attendees visited CAE’s crew training center, where they experienced the realism of the flight simulators used by technical crews. They also toured the Engine Workshop, the Component Workshop, the Test Bench, and Iberia Maintenance’s Hangar 6, where maintenance is carried out on the Spanish airline’s aircraft as well as those of more than 100 external clients.

“We firmly believe that inspiring vocations from an early age is key to building a more diverse future. It is deeply inspiring to see these young women drawn to professions where female representation has historically been lower. With the ‘Quiero Ser’ program, we aim to do just that: open doors, spark vocations, and give visibility to lesser-known professions, partly due to the lack of role models,” said María Bello, Director of People and Diversity at Iberia.

The initiative is part of Iberia’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan, which seeks to promote equal opportunities and highlight female role models in the aviation sector.
