Jamaica becomes Caribbean’s most connected destination with major investment in inclusive growth

Jamaica has secured its position as the Caribbean’s most connected destination, setting new regional benchmarks with record-breaking global air connectivity. The island is projected to welcome 4.5 million visitors by the end of the year, comprising 3.1 million stopover visitors and 1.4 million cruise passengers, reflecting an unprecedented level of accessibility with direct connections to over 55 international gateways.

Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, emphasized that this surge in connectivity goes beyond tourism milestones, positioning the country for national transformation. “Jamaica’s rapid expansion in airlift is more than just a milestone for tourism; it’s a catalyst for national transformation,” said Bartlett. He added that these developments are creating opportunities for small businesses, communities, and workers, ensuring the benefits of tourism growth are shared equitably across the island.

In a speech at the Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) 2025 media breakfast on September 23, Bartlett highlighted major investments aimed at modernizing Jamaica’s tourism infrastructure. One key project is the US$274 million Montego Bay Perimeter Road, now 60% complete. This initiative aims to ease chronic traffic congestion, open new corridors for commercial activity, and improve travel experiences for both residents and visitors.

Further expanding Jamaica’s tourism infrastructure, the government, in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), is working on widening key sections of the North Coast Highway. The upgrade will improve access to popular destinations such as Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, enhancing connectivity and strengthening economic ties between coastal communities…
