The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) announced that ALTA member airlines carried 9.5 million passengers in April, up 4% from the previous year, excluding domestic traffic in Brazil (see table 1). Traffic (RPK) grew 5.7% and capacity (ASK) increased 5%, bringing up the load factor to 77.7%, equivalent to 0.5 percentage points higher than in April 2015. Freight ton kilometers decreased 8.8% in April 2016 as compared with the same month the previous year, reaching 347 million FTKs.
ALTA member airlines – including Brazil domestic traffic – carried 14.1 million passengers in April, down 5.1% – or 763,000 fewer passengers – from the previous year (see table 2). Traffic (RPK) grew 0.2% and capacity (ASK) increased 0.4%, bringing the load factor down to 77.49%, 0.1 percentage points lower than in April 2015. Freight ton kilometers decreased 8.8% in April 2016 as compared with the same month of the previous year, reaching 369 million FTKs.
