The Aviation Market Grows But IATA Focuses On Ground Services

While statistics are encouraging in terms of number of airlines and occupancy, effective ground operations are an essential part of the process

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) highlighted three key priorities for the scale services industry to support the growing demand for air travel: harmonize global standards to improve safety, improve collaboration among stakeholders and develop talent.

«Effective ground operations are an essential part of the airline industry’s efforts to meet the expected growth in demand for air connectivity. To prepare for the future, we must focus on implementing global standards, enhanced collaboration and accelerating modernized processes,» said Nick. Global standards

IATA requested the scale services industry to accelerate the global adoption of the IATA Ground Operations Manual (IGOM) to ensure a level of operational consistency and safety throughout the industry worldwide. «Aviation becomes more secure when global standards are consistently applied, IGOM is the global standard and our worldwide implementation is our goal,» said Careen.
IATA also requested governments to recognize the IATA Security Audit for Land Operations (ISAGO), based on the IGOM standards, in their regulatory frameworks.

«We ask governments to universally recognize ISAGO as an acceptable means of compliance for the supervision of operators of outsourced services in ground operations, which will promote harmonization throughout the industry, reduce redundant audits, improve safety and improve efficiency.» operative, «said Careen.

As of April 2018, the number of terrestrial service providers (GSP) in the ISAGO Registry exceeded 230, with almost 450 stations registered in more than 300 airports around the world. ISAGO is recognized by several airport authorities, such as Amsterdam Schiphol, London Heathrow, Seattle Tacoma, Miami, Hong Kong and Singapore, and the civil aviation authorities of Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Holland and many others…
