Vinci expands reach in US, buys airports of Airports Worldwide

Vinci announced Tuesday the acquisition of the airport portfolio of the American company Airports Worldwide, which allows it to continue its expansion in a fast-growing sector and to gain a foothold in the United States.

The operation, the financial terms of which have not been communicated, will allow the French group of construction and concessions to add nine airports to its portfolio and to increase the number of platforms it manages from 36 to 45. In addition, there are three partially managed airports.

On the stock market, the Vinci share took the lead of the CAC 40 after these announcements. It gained 1.23 percent to 83.88 euros at 11:25, while the index fell slightly (-0.06 percent).

«With this acquisition, Vinci Airports sets up in the United States and thus benefits from an entry point into the largest air market in the world,» the group said in a statement.

Vinci has made airport development a priority for its strategic development in order to compensate for cycles of motorway concessions, a more mature sector, or those of the construction industry.

In France, he was recently selected for the privatization of Lyon airport. On the other hand, it will not build and operate the airport of Notre-Dame-des-Landes, the project that was entrusted to it having been abandoned. Vinci adds Belfast International airport and Skavsta airport near Stockholm, which is held in full ownership, Costa Rica’s two main airports, in co-control, several US regional airports, or the terminal and Orlando International Sanford Airport car park, Florida…
