Delta’s continued focus on advancing disability inclusion throughout the business has again been recognized. The company was honored as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” for the fifth consecutive year by the Disability Equality index, a prominent tool for Fortune 1000 companies to gauge their level of disability workplace inclusion against competitors.
“Our employees are the best in the industry and we believe in creating a workplace where all of them are valued for their strengths with opportunities to advance,” said Keyra LynnJohnson, Delta’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. “We are proud of the progress we have made to foster an inclusive environment where we value diversity; however, we also recognize that the work can never be done and we are constantly evaluating how we can improve for our people and our company.”
Delta earned a top score of 100 percent on the 2020 Disability Equality Index, the most comprehensive disability inclusion assessment tool – designed and embraced by both business leaders and disability advocates.
Delta is committed to evaluating opportunities for improvement for both employees and customers. The ABLE Disability Business Resource Group provides a forum for employees to connect with one another and serve as consultants to leadership on strategies or decisions that predominantly impact people with disabilities. Our Delta Advisory Board on Disability is dedicated to promoting accessibility for customers.
As a result of recommendations from these two groups and feedback from Delta’s customers, last year Delta rolled out a uniform sign language bar option for over 300+ sign languages around the world. This is just one way Delta has made changes to promote inclusion for employees and customers.
This year’s index measured companies’ inclusion criteria surrounding culture and leadership; enterprise-wide access; employment practices; community engagement, supplier diversity and non-U.S. operations. Companies that received a score of 80 or higher are recognized as the nation’s “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion.”
In 2020, 247 corporations used the index to benchmark their disability inclusion efforts. Globally, people with disabilities represent over one billion people, and Delta consistently works to improve the workplace so that all employees have the opportunity to succeed.
“The best way to attract, retain and grow talent with disabilities is to create an accessible, inclusive workplace. This year’s top scoring Disability Equality Index companies are demonstrating their commitment to many of the numerous leading disability inclusion practices featured in the DEI, recognizing that there’s still room for improvement” said Jill Houghton, President & Chief Executive Officer, Disability:IN. “We are proud to have developed strong partnerships with corporate allies who are committed to advancing disability inclusion and equality across their business in the United States and around the world.”
The 2020 “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” honor is only one of many accolades Delta has earned over the last year. Delta has also been recognized as a Forbes’ 2020 Best Workplaces for Diversity. Also, in 2019, Delta was recognized as a Best Workplace for Diversity (No. 58) by Fortune Magazine, Best Workplaces for Women by Great Place To Work® and Fortune and Top-Rated Workplaces for Veterans by Indeed.
