American Airlines Expands in the Dominican Republic with New Routes from Punta Cana

On December 6, American Airlines launched new routes from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) to four destinations in the United States, including Indianapolis (IND), Nashville (BNA), Pittsburgh (PIT), and Raleigh–Durham (RDU), strengthening its presence in the country.

“We are excited to continue strengthening our presence in the Dominican Republic with four new routes in Punta Cana, making this tropical paradise even more accessible,” said Mr. Oliver Bojos, Regional Operations Manager for Central Caribbean at American Airlines. “At American, we are proud to celebrate 50 years connecting the Dominican Republic with the world — and the world with the Dominican Republic. This milestone reflects the trust and loyalty our customers have placed in us throughout the years.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Giovanni Rainieri, Director of Airside Operations at Punta Cana Airport, highlighted, “The expansion of American Airlines’ operations in Punta Cana reaffirms our vision of continuing to boost the country’s air connectivity. Each new route represents greater opportunities for our region, for tourism, and for national economic development. At Punta Cana Airport, we value this strategic partnership that continues to generate sustained growth.”

These new routes, which will operate exclusively on Saturdays, will be available until April 4, 2026, and will use Boeing 737 aircraft with a capacity of 172 seats. With these additions, American will offer up to 95 weekly flights from Punta Cana to 11 destinations in the United States, including Boston (BOS), Charlotte (CLT), Chicago (ORD), Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), and Philadelphia (PHL), as well as IND, BNA, PIT, and RDU.

This winter, American will increase its seat capacity by more than 12% and its operations by 13% in Punta Cana, compared with the 2024–2025 season.

American’s Operations in the Dominican Republic
The airline will operate more than 162 weekly flights from five destinations in the Dominican Republic, including Santo Domingo (SDQ), Santiago (STI), Puerto Plata (POP), La Romana (LRM), and Punta Cana (PUJ).
