DHL Express has added capacity between destinations in Asia Pacific, the US and Europe to meet growing demand, particularly for e-commerce.

The carrier said it will utilise Boeing 777 freighters to offer weekly capacity of almost 2,350 tonnes.

One of the B777Fs will be operated by DHL Express’ partner airline Kalitta Air, flying five times per week from the US to DHL Express’ South Asia hub in Singapore, via Sydney. From Singapore, the aircraft will stop at Hong Kong and Japan before returning to the US.

Kalitta Air will also operate a new route for DHL Express between Singapore and Sydney, six times per week.

Other aircraft on the routes will be operated by AeroLogic, the joint venture between DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo.

The AeroLogic aircraft will fly six times per week from Leipzig to Hong Kong and Singapore. They will then stop at Bahrain before returning to Leipzig.

With online retail in Asia Pacific expected to be worth $2.5tr by 2024 [according to Forrester], DHL Express said its new services will will help to facilitate cross-border commerce while making best use of the location of its South Asia in Singapore.

Ken Lee, chief executive of DHL Express Asia Pacific, added: “With the new routes, businesses and consumers from Australia and New Zealand can expect the transit time for their shipments to and from the US and Europe to improve as they look to expand their reach to the rest of Asia Pacific, the US and Europe.

“Shipment volumes into and out of the Oceania region have grown exponentially. Our investment in the new aircraft and dedicated flight routes with increased frequency signify our confidence in the region’s growth trajectory and equally demonstrate our commitment to facilitate global trade as the economy heals”…
