JetBlue to add nonstop Fort Lauderdale-Ecuador flight

JetBlue Airways will debut a nonstop flight from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) in Guayaquil, Ecuardor.

The new service will begin Feb. 28, 2019. It will mark the New York-based airline’s (Nasdaq: JBLU) sixth destination in South America and second in Ecuador.

Flight 1255 will depart FLL at 7 p.m., arriving at GYE at 11:45 p.m. Flight 1256 will depart GYE at 12:45 a.m., arriving at FLL at 5:21 a.m. The flight will be operated on JetBlue’s Airbus A320 aircraft.

The airline, which aims to add 140 daily flights at FLL in the coming years, flies more than 40 million people to more than 100 cities in the U.S., Caribbean and Latin America each year. It has an average of 1,000 daily flights.

FLL is ranked 19th in the country for total passenger traffic and 14th for domes​tic origin and destination passengers, according to its website. Facilitating more than 700 flights a day, the airport offers nonstop service to more than 75 cities nationwide, plus international flights to more than 60 destinations in 33 countries…
