Latin American and Caribbean airlines passenger traffic up 4% in June 2018: ALTA

In June, passenger traffic grew 4% compared to the same period of the previous year. Brazil and Mexico domestic markets led the month’s growth with 252,000 and 253,000 additional passengers, respectively. Chile showed the greatest percentage growth (17%), followed by Peru (11%) and Argentina (7%), while Colombia showed a decrease of 5.1% this month.

The extra-Latin American international market showed significant growth (9.7%), being the traffic from/to North America the one which grew the most in absolute terms, with 188,000 additional passengers and more than 1,300 additional flights, led by Mexican airlines that operated nearly 900 additional flights to the USA and more than 120 additional flights to Canada. Africa showed the highest percentage growth with 44.5%, mainly due to the increase of flights to/from Latin America and the Caribbean: 26 flights (4,700 seats) in June 2017 to 42 flights (9,280 seats) in June 2018.

In this way, Latin American and Caribbean airlines completed 7 consecutive trimesters of growth, mainly thanks to the economic recovery in Brazil that has been happening since the end of 2016.
