Lufthansa Cargo to add four 777Fs, speed up MD-11F phaseout

Lufthansa Cargo (LHC) will take delivery of four Boeing 777Fs in 2019 to speed up the phaseout of its 12-aircraft strong MD-11F fleet.

“We are fortunate to get four Boeing 777Fs this year, one of the biggest fleet-renewal programs in our history,” Lufthansa Cargo CCO Dorothea von Boxberg told ATW in Nairobi.

Two aircraft will be delivered in the LHC colors and two will go to Leipzig-based AeroLogic, a joint venture of LHC and DHL Express. “There will be two AeroLogic 777Fs flying for LHC permanently,” von Boxberg said.

Two of the new fleet additions will be leased and two will be purchased.

LHC operates five Boeing 777Fs; AeroLogic has 10 777Fs.

“These four new aircraft will give us a capacity increase of up to 12%. Two MD-11Fs will then leave our fleet this year,” she said…
