On April 6, 7, and 8, 2026, a new Annual Meeting of the Americas Fraud Prevention Group was held at the offices of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Mastercard, and Visa in Miami, Florida.
During these sessions, 10 airlines and 3 OTAs participated, along with a broad ecosystem of industry stakeholders, including Air Europa, Amadeus, Avianca, BOA, British Airways, Chargeback Gurus, Chargebacks911, COPA, Despegar, El Corte Inglés, eTraveli Group, GOL, IBS Software, Koin, LexisNexis, Mastercard, Riskified, Sabre, StarPeru, Swiss/Lufthansa, Volans Group, Volaris, and Worldpay.
Representatives from IATA, ALTA, airlines, travel agencies, credit card companies, payment processors, and global distribution systems (GDS), among others, analyzed fraud metrics, cases, and typologies, and shared prevention and management tools, best practices, and standards aimed at assessing the regional landscape and coordinating actions to address challenges in payment security and chargebacks, as well as examining the diversity of payment methods across all distribution channels.
Communication and collaboration among all parties remain key elements. In this regard, IATA has, over the years, consolidated various working groups aimed at building a unified front against fraud in the Americas, with the goal of protecting the ticket purchasing process and related services, while also providing a safer, smoother, and more efficient experience for passengers.
