Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA), together with Wingo, the Government of Aruba, the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.), and key tourism stakeholders, proudly celebrated the inauguration of Wingo’s new direct service between Barranquilla (BAQ), Colombia, and Aruba (AUA), marking another important milestone in strengthening air connectivity between Aruba and Colombia.
The new year-round Barranquilla service officially commenced on July 9 with its inaugural flight from Barranquilla in the morning, followed by its arrival in the afternoon in Aruba. The inbound inaugural flight arrived with 156 seats fully occupied, reflecting the strong demand for travel between Colombia and Aruba.
The celebration also recognized the successful launch of Wingo’s seasonal Bucaramanga (BGA) service, which began operations on June 17, 2026, and will operate through August 15, 2026.
To commemorate this milestone, an inaugural ceremony was held at Aruba Airport on July 9, 2026, following the arrival of the Barranquilla flight. The celebration brought together key representatives from the Government of Aruba, Wingo, the Aruba Tourism Authority, and tourism stakeholders. The event featured official remarks by Aruba’s Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labor, mr. Wendrick Cicilia, as well as speeches from Carlos Meléndez, Director of Network Planning and Performance at Wingo, and Barbara Brown, Chief Revenue Development & Communications Officer at Aruba Airport Authority N.V. The celebration concluded with a traditional ribbon-cutting and cake-cutting ceremony, officially marking the launch of Wingo’s newest connection between Aruba and Colombia.
“Our goal has always been to create purposeful connections that generate a real impact for our communities. This new route between Barranquilla and Aruba not only strengthens our ties with Colombia but also creates new opportunities for tourism, business, healthcare, and cultural exchange. With each new connection, we continue building a more accessible, competitive, and globally open Aruba, bringing people, ideas, and opportunities together for the benefit of both destinations,” said Wendrick Cicilia, Minister of Tourism, Transport, and Labor.
“With our new routes from Bucaramanga and Barranquilla to Aruba, Wingo is strengthening its position as the airline offering the most connectivity between Aruba and Colombia. Today, we connect the island with five Colombian cities—Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Bucaramanga, and Barranquilla—expanding travel opportunities for Colombian travelers while strengthening the tourism, family, and cultural ties that unite both markets. Aruba is a key destination within our network, and we remain committed to bringing it closer to more travelers through direct, convenient, and affordable flights,” said Jorge Jiménez, Wingo’s Vice President of Commercial and Network Planning.
“At the Aruba Tourism Authority, we strive to preserve and foster ‘Un Aruba dushi pa biba, ta un Aruba dushi pa bishita’, where our residents are at the heart of a strategy that seeks to connect local families and guests, while generating international business opportunities for the benefit of our community,” said Ronella Croes, CEO at the Aruba Tourism Authority.
«At Aruba Airport Authority, developing and fostering strategic air service partnerships remains a key priority. The launch of Barranquilla and Bucaramanga further strengthens our connectivity with Colombia and reflects the confidence airlines continue to place in the Aruba market. We are pleased to support Wingo’s continued growth on the island and the expansion of travel opportunities for Aruba’s residents, while continuing to strengthen Aruba’s position as a well-connected destination in the region,» said Barbara Brown, Chief Revenue Development & Communications Officer at Aruba Airport Authority N.V.
Colombia continues to be one of Aruba’s most strategic markets in Latin America. With the addition of Barranquilla and Bucaramanga, Wingo now operates direct service between Aruba and five Colombian cities; Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, and Bucaramanga—offering travelers greater convenience while supporting Aruba’s tourism diversification strategy and continued air service development.
These new routes reflect Aruba Airport Authority’s ongoing commitment and partnership with Wingo that continues to strengthen Aruba’s regional connectivity and support sustainable economic development.
