Viracopos will be the first airport to adopt e-AWB Project

The Viracopos International Airport was chosen to host and develop the project e-AWB (AirWay Bill),that aims to reduce paperworks and the bureaucracy procedures for transaction of international cargo. The system is common in major airports around the world.

The initiative is the result of a partnership between the IATA (International Air Transport Association) and the concessionaire Viracopos Airports Brazil, with support from the Internal Revenue Service and the Lufthansa and DB Schenker companies.

«The ratification of Viracopos Airport to use the e-AWB will bring more agility to Brazilian exports removing the red tape from the process, since it relieves the transaction of paper copies through the electronic exchange of data between the links of the logistics chain, supported by contracts directly regulated by IATA and signed by the participating companies, «explains the CEO of Viracopos, Luiz Alberto Küster.

«The e-AWB (AirWay Bill) will be a revolution, as was the implementation of electronic ticket (e-ticket). It will generate cutting red tape and get transparency in information management. This project is part of a process that will lead to e-freight, whose goal is to make available electronically in real time all the documents, «said Carlos Ebner, director of IATA for Brazil.

In December, Lufthansa and DB Schenker begin to realize the first flights with the new system in Viracopos-Frankfurt route. Initially, the e-AWB will be used only in the export.

In early 2014, the intention is to add gradually new carriers and routes in the process. In the middle of next year, there will be a review for the system to be implemented also for the importation sector.
