Ed Bastian customer update: We’re in this together

The power of human connection has never been more important. When a customer recently called into our engagement center, he surprised an employee by playing piano and singing her favorite song – all to show appreciation and encouragement during these times. This is one of hundreds of inspiring stories flooding my inbox. In ways big and small, you uplift the entire Delta family and are the reason we proudly show up every day to give you our best.

It is a privilege to serve you, which is why I want to make you aware of additional steps we’re taking to care for you and your loved ones when the time is right for you to fly again. While many of these changes are temporary, our commitment to your safety and well-being will always remain.

Requiring masks to keep everyone safe. Providing every person with an extra layer of protection will help make your travel experience safe. That’s why we are temporarily requiring face masks or face coverings for everyone – Delta employees included – in the check-in lobby, Delta Sky Clubs, gate areas, jet bridges and on board our aircraft. If you find yourself without a face mask or covering, don’t hesitate to ask our team for one – we’re here for you.

Giving you more space onboard with new seating policies. Limiting the number of people you pass on the way to your seat and providing you with additional space is a priority. For these reasons, we recently started back-to-front boarding, capped seating at 50 percent in First Class and 60 percent in Main Cabin, and created new seating policies that keep middle seats blocked. On planes without middle seats, we are blocking select aisle and window seats to give you even more peace of mind during your travels. And as you deplane, please take time to create distance for those ahead of you to exit.

Expanding our efforts to keep your space and surfaces sanitized. Protecting your well-being is the driver behind all that we do with cleanliness. We are using electrostatic sprayers to sanitize every aircraft before each departure, complementing extensive cleaning measures already in place to clean high-touch areas before every flight. We continue to coordinate with the CDC and local health organizations to ensure we take every available step to keep your space and our aircraft and facilities clean.

In honor of National Nurses Week, I personally thank all nurses and medical workers for your sacrifice and bravery. You have my promise Delta will continue to get you safely to those in need so you can continue providing critical, often lifesaving, responsibilities.
