Star Alliance Marks 29th Anniversary, Strengthening Seamless Multi-Airline Journeys Across Its Global Network

Today, Star Alliance marks its 29th anniversary.

Since its launch in 1997 as the world’s first global airline alliance, Star Alliance has evolved from building a strong global network into enabling more effortless, connected journeys across its member airlines.

The Alliance now brings together 26 member airlines, connecting customers to more than 1,150 airports across 190 countries. The recent addition of ITA Airways further strengthens connectivity across Italy and the broader European network, offering customers more choice and smoother journeys across the Alliance.

As travel continues to evolve, customers increasingly expect journeys that feel effortless and connected from end to end, even when moving across multiple member airlines. Across the Star Alliance network, member airlines continue working closely together to align systems, services, and customer touchpoints, helping journeys flow in greater rhythm and harmony across the network.

Recent developments reflect this continued focus on the customer journey. The opening of the Star Alliance Lounge in Guangzhou Terminal 3 strengthens the experience at one of Asia’s key aviation hubs, while Star Connection Centres at major international gateways like Los Angeles, help support smoother and more coordinated connections for customers travelling across member airlines.

This focus on a more seamless experience has also been recognised globally. At the Skytrax World Airline Awards, Star Alliance was named the World’s Best Airline Alliance for the fourth consecutive year, while the Star Alliance Lounge at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport retained its title as the World’s Best Airline Alliance Lounge for the second year running. At the World Travel Awards, Star Alliance was recognised as the World’s Leading Airline Alliance for the sixth consecutive year, while the Star Alliance Lounge in Los Angeles was named North America’s Leading Airport Lounge for the sixth year in a row.

As Star Alliance marks its 29th year, the focus remains on strengthening effortless, connected journeys across its global network, bringing greater harmony to multi-airline travel for customers worldwide.
